Yes a petition would be great and it would also be great if you emailed all the members about this and ask them to email mikael. Mikael is in the folketing and writing the arguments now for the folketing debate next month so yes please tell all members to flood him with emails and make a petition as well. Mikael will inform me when the debate will happen in the Folketing next month and it would be great with a demostration outside supporting this law change and lots of people inside following the debate!
Time for a email tsunami!

Hi Larry, can you make the petition? I don't have time to make one and I don't know much about the subject, so if you could make one, then I think we should wait until it's done and then send it to all forum members. That way they can already take action on it... don't you think?

this Petition should be in Danish. You can write,in Danish, this: Dear honarable members of folketinget,
We are many foreigners who have lived in Denmark for a number of years. We pay tax, have children who are Danish citizens, speak Danish, believe in Democracy and support Denmark. We are intergrated in the Danish society but we do not have the right to vote. We feel Danish but we also feel something for the citizenship we already have and would be sorry to give that citizenship up to become a Danish citizen. We the signators of this petition think it would be a great step forward for Democratic intergration if the folketing would vote for the law proposal that is coming up in April to allow persons who become Danish citizens to be dual citizens. Dual citizenship is allowed in Sweden,Norway
Holland and other countries that Denmark can be compared with so please
be open to this new law proposal and vote for it when it is proposed in the folketing !
then room for people to sign. Here is the petition heading please translate to danish and have it in english as well. I will sign right away. After all it is because of me that this is being taken up in the folketing at all
By the way you can send the petition to mikael! Edited by larryjf - 29 Mar 2008 at 8:55pm |

Larry, I see a few things that could raise some issues... 1. if we have this petition hosted with www.petitiononline.com , there could be Danish people signing as well and they wouldn't fit under the description you wrote. I actually thing it would be stronger if Danish people signed it giving their support to this matter. 2. If this is a closed petition, the description is generalizing that all foreigners signing it have children, live in DK for many years, etc... which could hold back foreigners who don't fit into that description, from signing it... So, I propose something like this instead: One of the requirements for a foreign national to become a Danish citizen, is to abdicate their current nationality. We believe this is an unfair requirement and request that Denmark change its current law to allow dual citizenship, like it is the case in Sweden and Norway. Thereby allowing foreigners to keep their current nationality while becoming a citizen of Denmark. (then on the signing part) We, the undersigned, request that Denmark change its current law to allow dual citizenship. What do you guys think? |

Yes great Fine! Please email everyone and tell them where to go to sign it and the text should be in Danish and english. It is fine if Danes and foreigners sign it. The more the better. You go girl!
By the way I was at a meeting today of the democratic party in denmar(Yes we have a chaper here!) I annonced that this debate was coming up in the folketing next month and everyone was really happy. I urged thm and now you guys who read this,to email EVERY folketing politician with a support email for this law change. The email addresses of the folketing politicians will always be like Mikaels for example pia.kellsgaard@ft.dk yes I probably spelled thatone wrong but you get the idea. It will always be the first name then dot then the last name @ft.dk email the PM,email Helle
torning email any ft politician and let them know you suport this. I will post a date for a demonstration outside the folketing soon. It will be on the same day as the debate in April. As soon as I get the folketing debate date I will post it here. It will also be demonstration day!
