I won't even bother with that. I'll bake him a cake to enjoy with us and if he wants, I'll either cook him something nice to enjoy here or we'll go out to eat wherever he wants for his birthday.

When it comes to giving him anything to take to school to share with the little Danish kids.. no way, no how. Not even store-bought candy. I'd probably screw up and buy the 'wrong' kind and cause my son to be mocked by his peers.

Dame, those are all such valid reasons to move back home.

The ignorance and conservatism of Danes just appalls me. Yours is not the first account I've read of people ignoring something a person has gone to the trouble to make.

I'm also planning a leave, but mine feels nearly impossible to even coordinate at the moment, since it will be only me.

Disclaimer: this pokes fun at the tired universally used "If you don't like it, why don't you leave?" meme.

That's sad to hear, Heidi.

Heidi,

I'm so sorry to hear it'll be only you!

You sound hesitant. Maybe it's too much of a personal question to ask on the Internet, but is it one of those situations where love just isn't enough?

Under any circumstance, ending a long-term relationship is a very sad, and very difficult thing to do. I feel for you.
