In general, jobs are not easy to find for anyone. But if you're a foreigner without a very good command of Danish, your chances are extremely limited. Sadly, English isn't usually enough to get you on the ladder unless you're specifically recruited from abroad. In that case, you're probably the type of person that could get by solely with English. If you're just turning up on spec, even with good qualifications, you might be 'fortunate' to find menial work such as cleaning or delivering newspapers. But even then, at least with the cleaning option, any Danish applicant will probably be considered before the foreign applicant. In fact, many adverts for cleaning jobs state that the applicant should read and speak Danish to a reasonable standard. The easiest two ways to find jobs are: (1) to be recruited to a high-end profession when outside of Denmark; or (2) to be fortunate enough to have a Danish connection that recommends you to an employer. The third option, applying for jobs in the normal way, is incredibly frustrating and bears so little fruit for many foreign applicants. I sent off hundreds of applications and they yielded precisely nothing. I ended up getting my temporary job, which is of the menial variety, by being recommended. The job I do now wasn't even advertised. I really wouldn't recommend this country to anyone other those that know they are able to sell their skills. Nonetheless, if you're ready to work hard at Danish, take crap work for a number of years and do the whole integration thing, you will succeed in the end. Many people leave before that stage, and go to some place where the opportunities don't take so long to materialise. |

Nebbiolo, you have pretty much described it.
I would really dissuade people from moving to Denmark to search for a job from here. In that case (no matter what your skills are) it is often expected that you know the language (no matter how long you have been in the country already). If you are searching from aborad the toleance of not knowing Danish is much higher.

Thank you very much guys...Nebbiolo and Dagmar..You have cleared all my doubts. Obviously as a foreigner, even if I learn the language, I may not be successful in grabbing the job. So all my efforts to get the VISA went futile.
Probably I should change my color like MJ |

Not futile, Ram, just a lot of hard work. I don't know anything about your situation or for how long your visa is valid, etc, etc. But I do know that if you have time and the law on your side (regards to the right to live and work here) and the will to succeed, you would be able to get on here. It's just not a straightforward process and requires much dedication. |
